What is a master's level counseling intern?
A master's level counseling intern is someone who is in their last year of training in their counseling master's program. They have completed all or most of their course work, and have experience working as a therapist in the community.
An intern is supervised by a licensed clinician. They have years of experience who oversee their work in the practice. This helps them offer the best treatment to their clients. Interns are in touch with the leading edge of research in the industry and bring the latest treatment options to therapy.
We only work with interns who bring a wealth of personal, lived experience to the table. By doing so, we know they can best serve our clients.
Meet Ashley!
Therapy Intern
Hello! I am a Clinical Social Work therapy intern in my final two semesters of graduate school. I am beyond excited to bring my combined education and field experience to Grit Therapy and support individuals to achieve their mental and emotional wellness goals. I serve adults and couples (ages 18+) from various backgrounds and communities in a safe, inclusive, and nonjudgmental space.
I enjoy supporting those experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, parenting challenges, stress, navigating work/life balances, OCD, Trauma, and more. Everyone has a unique story and perspective which is why I believe that tailoring therapy through a client-centered approach in combination with various evidence-based treatment approaches, provides the client with the best outcome for their goals. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), motivational interviewing (MI) and a strengths-based approach. I favor these approaches because I do not believe we have to be stuck in the past and with some guided assistance in therapy, can push through the barriers to whatever is holding us back. My style is a combination of validation and empathy with some challenge and humor (laughter has mental and physical health benefits!)
I have undergraduate degrees in Human Services and Social Work. I have nearly a decade of field experience working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds in difficult situations. My experience includes youth residential facilities, adolescent support groups, homeless young adult programs, court ordered supervised visitation, case management and child welfare.
I was born and raised in metro-Detroit, Michigan. I made the best decision of my life by moving to Colorado nine years ago and planting my roots. Outside of the office you can find me on the mountains snowboarding, hiking or biking, in my kitchen cooking a new recipe or seeing live music at Red Rocks or a music festival.
